*Indicative Diagram

There are three tiers of blob storage in Azure:

  1. Hot: The cheapest to access, but the most expensive to store.
  2. Cool: Medium price storage, but expensive to access.
  3. Archive: Extremely cheap per GB storage

Indicative Appliance References:

StorSimple Appliance

AltaVault Appliance

Notes:

  • Archive storage is unique because it does not offer read performance – you cannot download or directly access blobs (files) from archive storage. You can only send items from hot/cool storage to archive storage

Solutions Component Details

This solution consists of three Azure resources:
  1. Resource Group: A logical container for a collection of resources that can be treated as one logical instance. You can use resource groups to control all of their members collectively.
  2. Storage Account: Azure block blob storage with Hot, Cool and Archive tiers.
  3. On-Premise Appliance: appliance running on-premises that can tier data to Azure Blob storage. Ex: Azure StorSimple.
